Background

Qivliq LLC is owned by the NANA Development Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation formed following congressional enactment of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). ANCSA was intended to resolve the long-standing issue of aboriginal land claims in Alaska and to create a mechanism for economic development in Alaska, particularly in rural areas. It was Congress’s intent that Alaska Native people, the shareholders of private corporations created by the Act, would guide this development.

NANA’s 11,400 shareholders maintain cultural ties to the region their ancestors have inhabited for more than 10,000 years, relying on the land for subsistence hunting, fishing, and cultural expression of Iñupiat values. The NANA Region has a population of 7,200 people living in 11 communities or villages. Reliance on the land remains a traditional way of life for the Iñupiat people. The continuation of that relationship is a vital element of Iñupiat values.

Qivliq, LLC was started in 2003 as a NANA company. It is one of more than 30 companies held by NANA Development Corporation providing benefits to NANA shareholders in the form of jobs, education and dividends.

Our business is greatly influenced by the wisdom and experiences or our Alaska Native owners.
