Qivliq is owned by NANA Development Corporation (NDC), the Alaska Native regional corporation for the 11 communities comprising Northwest Alaska. and headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska.
NANA Development Corporation
Formed in 1972, NDC is the business arm of NANA Regional Corporation, and is responsible for overseeing all business activity, developing new, diverse opportunities for NANA shareholders and generating revenue to provide dividends to its owners. NDC operates a multinational company with more than 30 subsidiaries. NANA operations extend from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, across the continental United States, to the Middle East and the South Pacific.
NANA’s 11,400 shareholders are Iñupiat Eskimo people.The majority
of NANA’s shareholders live in the 11 communities of the Northwest
Arctic—Kotzebue, Kivalina, Noatak, Kobuk, Shungnak, Ambler, Kiana, Noorvik,
Selawik, Buckland and Deering. Our shareholders maintain cultural ties to the
region their ancestors have inhabited for more than 10,000 years, relying on
the land for subsistence hunting, fishing,
and cultural expression of Iñupiat values.

Benefiting Shareholder Owners - the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act
When the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANSCA) was authored, it was intended to create a mechanism for economic development, especially in impoverished areas of rural Alaska. Congress enacted the ANCSA in December 1971, a historic measure intended to resolve the long-standing issue of aboriginal land claims in Alaska. ANCSA had another purpose, to create a mechanism for economic development in Alaska, particularly in rural areas. It was Congress’ intent that Alaska Native people, the shareholders of private corporations created by the Act, would guide this development.
